SNOWBOARD SKILL PROGRESSION

 

LEVEL 1

First Timer

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS 
Equipment, walking, skating, climbing, straight running, toe/heel drag, use lifts, balanced body position  

LEVEL 2

Beginner

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS 

Side slip/pendulum, traverse with stop  

LEVEL 3

Novice

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS 

Isolated turn, linked turns  

LEVEL 4

Upper Novice

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS 

Flexion & Extension  

LEVEL 5

Lower Intermediate

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS 

Intermediate Sliding Turns – increased edging on blue slopes  

LEVEL 6

Intermediate 

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS 

Basic Carved Turns – carved turns on green slopes; carved traverse, uphill fan progression, rail to rail on flats   

LEVEL 7

Upper Intermediate

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS 

Advanced Sliding Turns – black slopes, short radius; speiss; riding small bumps and hollows  

LEVEL 8

Advanced 

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS 

Advanced Carved Turns – blue slopes; with increased pressure control and increased board flex  

LEVEL 9

Expert

DESCRIPTION OF SKILLS 

Expert Sliding Turns – down unweighting; aggressive dynamic sliding short radius turns in bumps; black runs with large bumps
